Yttria Stabilized Zirconia (YTZP) is the strongest ceramic material we offer. YTZP is a purely tetragonal phase, fine grain material. This material offers the highest flexural strength of all Zirconia based materials. YTZP exhibits a trait called transformation toughening which allows it to resist crack propagation.
Zirconia (ZrO2) Crucibles are great refractory and insulating materials. They have a clean melt at temperatures above 1900°C and above and are specially manufactured for melting superalloys and precious metals.
Magnesia stabilized zirconia exhibits superior resistance to thermal shock and erosion. Transformation toughened zirconias such a Magnesia-Stabilized Zirconia have small precipitates of tetragonal phase which are formed inside of the cubic phase grains.
The main advantage of Zirconia Toughened Alumina (ZTA) is the additional strength and toughness over alumina with a lower cost than zirconia (YTZP, MSZ, CSZ). The combination of aluminum oxide and 10-20% zirconium oxide provides a much higher strength, toughness, hardness and wear resistance than alumina alone.
High strength, high fracture toughness, high hardness and high density, stability, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, high temperature resistance. These special features make zirconia an excellent mortar and pestle material for sensitive biological and other critical applications requiring ultra-low contamination and acid resistance.
